Hi people!
I'm still working on adjusting to the time zone over here. But it's kicking in pretty fast which is good!
Well, the kicking part is a bit painful but it's for the best ;)
So yesterday Julie showed me some more of the neighborhood. We drove around the pitsea train station (Reminds me so much of the Japanese train stations) and spent most of our time going grocery shopping. The store had so many flags inside! All the European country flags, "half-off price" flags, and mainly football (also known as soccer) flags rooting for England. It was super colorful!
Julie showed me some British chocolate. There was a HUGE wall of just chocolate. I was in heaven. Being overwhelmed with numerous choices, Julie picked out her favorites for me to try. She got a bag of "buttons" and another bag of "caramel-filled buttons." Both of which blasted me to chocolate heaven. Then I sadly landed back on earth. I just might have an addiction to British chocolate.
Julie also showed me the yogurt section. Again, SO MANY CHOICES. Plus the containers come in various shapes. There are containers called "corners" where the container is split in two. One side has the flavored yogurt while the other has the topping. There was also the ones that come in a tube like the ones in the states (the name escapes me... I wanna say Gogurt?) but mainly all the containers are in smaller portions (so cute).
They even have the same cereals too! Well, that really shouldn't surprise me. The box covers for Cookie Crisp, Rice Crispy Treats, Fruit Loops, and such were all 3D animated instead of the usual 2D appearance on US boxes. Julie told me about how she had Special K cereal when she was in the states and said it tasted so nasty like cardboard. I was shocked since I love Special K so this morning I had some British Special K. Didn't think it was possible, but the cereal was even MORE delicious. Don't worry, I still love my US Special K :)
Lastly, I've been building up my UK sports knowledge. Cliff and I were watching a football game last night between Portugal and Czech. They kept mentioning a player named "Ronaldo" from Portugal. I'm guessing he's been a rising star lately. And he played fantastically well in the game! Besides British chocolate, Football has become another new fascination for me.
Hope you are doing great!!
So...where is the picture of the chocolate store, wrapping paper, cereal boxes or football/soccer game you were watching? Well, all sound sooooooo awesome! Soccer is HUGE in Japan, too. I used to watch that a lot (and the baseball) with Oji-chan when I was growing up. I am so glad that the Herbertsons are sharing the "normal things" that they do with you. That means so much more than visiting some high tourists places (nothing wrong with it...and I am sure you'll be able to do that sometime), but living with the locals and learn their culture and what they appreciate are more meaningful. I am also grateful that you keep your scripture study and listen to conference talks. NO MATTER WHERE YOU GO, those things are important to stay close to our Heavenly Father. Think of you all the time and continue to keep you in our prayers. Stay safe and enjoy! I am sure it's almost your bed time...:) Rise and SHINE early every day and breathe all the good air...and enjoy food! Lots of love from Mom and Mike
ReplyDeleteHey this sounds great. Do you have any pictures of the wall of chocolate or the flags? Also, have you taken pictures with the Herbertsons yet? Maybe you could challenge Cliff or Julie to a tennis match--what do you think?
