What a day! What a yesterday even! So It'd probably be best to start from the top I suppose (Wow, I'm already starting to sound British in my own mind).
Yesterday for the most part was pretty chill. I spent most of the day repacking my things and doing some reading. Some of you might have caught on about the "repacking" bit? I'm being relocated. The most wonderful Johnson family is so kind enough to let me stay with them so I can be closer to London! So yesterday Cliff, Nathan, and Connor all drove me down to the Johnson's home. What a road trip. Defiantly got exposed to lots of various rock songs (shockingly I liked about 90% of the ones that they played) while Cliff would book it then slow down for the traffic cameras. Guess guys really do have a need for speed, but it was hilarious and entertaining :)
After I was dropped off I was introduced to the Johnson family. There's Rufus (cool name right?), Juliet, and their kids Merilyn (3 years old. Likes to be a T-Rex) and their twin boys Aticus and Hardy (about 18 months old). The kids were a bit shy around me at first, but they warmed up quickly.
Once I unpacked everything, Juliet walked with me to the Fulham Broadway station to help me buy a travelcard so I could go to church and so I knew how to find the station.
The next day, today, was pretty adventurous. Juliet and Merilyn went to their 9am ward while Rufus stayed home with the boys because they are sick. I left around 12:30 to go up to my 1pm ward and started pretty good. Found the station just fine, got through the entry gate just fine, but I got on the wrong train. LUCKILY I caught on right away so at the next stop, I got on the RIGHT train. It took awhile for the right train to come so I was running a bit late. After I got off at the correct stop, I walked down a LONG tunnel to the church building. Saw a street (tunnel) performer playing the violin, lots of Asians, families going to museums, the whole shabang. After exiting the tunnel, I ran into two girls also going to my ward so we found the building and sat together. I'm still so surprised how many Asians there are! Half the congregation is Asian! In between I got to talk with the girls I came in with and found out they are also BYU students. They (Hailey and Courtney are their names) went ona study abroad program to Spain for Spanish and were traveling through Europe together. They went through Barcelona, Madrid, Rome, Paris, and were now traveling a bit in London before flying back to the states this week. We are possibly going to see some sights tomorrow, but they are confirming their schedules. I'm hoping we'll get to tour together tomorrow :)
And after church, I got to talk with a ward member named Charlotte. Apparently now I'll be helping her teach basic ballroom dance moves to the ward to prep for a ball we're having in July! Putting my social dance skills to the test (lol). Looking forward to getting to know the ward :)
The way back home was A LOT less complicated. When I arrived back, I quickly changed to help out with the dinner party. Rufus and Juliet had their friends over (Couldn't catch the husband and wife's names over the kids playing/screaming) with their kids William and Anne. It was a super fun little get together. Afterwards, I went upstairs to the nursery with the kids so the adults could talk. Long story short, I played name that food, dinosaurs, pony, and run in a circle games. It actually was pretty fun!
Well until next time this is your very own Hana hoping to see you smiling at... wherever you're currently located.
I could imagine you speaking with British accent as I read your blog. You are so funny. I am so glad that you're able to figure out a way to get on a RIGHT train to get to Church and back to the Johnson's...whew...Is the LONG tunnel safe? sorry...It's every parent's job to worry about their kiddos. I just want you be safe no matter where you are. I am so glad that you found some BYU friends over there! I hope you will get to tour with them too...! Thank you for sharing your fun and exiting stories! Please give my warmest regards to the Johnson's (sorry...I was not aware of this...that we don't have the "Oregon" book for them...) Hugs, mom
ReplyDeleteof course you find asians wherever you go. hahaha so jealous. :P sounds super fun :-)
ReplyDeleteAre the Johnsons American or British? That will make a difference whether or not you pick up an accent. I know that when I was in Cork, Ireland with the Stapleton Family for a week, I had a little Irish brogue when I came back, but all the Americans at the BYU London Center caused my normal accent to return. Of course, if you really want a British accent, you can practice it. Can't want to hear what happens at Hampton Court or the Tower of London tomorrow.
